Jhonattan Vegas returns to Glen Abbey Golf Course to defend his RBC Canadian Open title

The RBC Canadian Open has settled into its host site, Glen Abbey Golf Course in Oakville, Ontario. The 7,273-yard par-72 track was designed by Jack Nicklaus in 1976. Ironically, the Canadian Open was one of few regular tour stops the Golden Bear never won.

The course is remembered for Tiger Woods’ 218-yard six iron bunker shot over water to 20 feet to seal the 2000 Canadian Open against Grant Waite. Mark Calcavecchia set the PGA TOUR record for most birdies in a row with nine on holes No. 12-18 and 1-2 back in 2009.

A record $6 million purse is available this year. Five-hundred FedEx Cup points go to the winner as four weeks separate the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Jhonattan Vegas will defend his title and is among five past champions from the decade in the field. Scores at Glen Abbey have been pretty consistent. The winning total has been between 12- and 18-under.

Let’s see who has the chops to win this week, and if a Canadian can win for the first time since Pat Fletcher in 1954.
