Ins and Outs of the FedEx Cup
Certainly yesterday held a tremendous amount of pressure for some players. Many questions would be asked? Do I have to make up any more positions in order to advance? Who has to drop shots for me to have a chance? While it’s never good to wish ill-will upon a fellow player (you know, all that “karma’s a…”), you have to wonder if just once a player wasn’t saying (to himself) “miss it”. Probably not. If you were in a position to be sent home or advancing on to East Like, you only had one person to blame…yourself. Brandt Snedeker took [...]
Jim Furyk Wins The Tour Championship, 2010 FedEx Cup
Though the FedEx Cup playoffs have been criticized a whole lot since its’ inception, the final event of the playoffs, The Tour Championship, pretty much always gives us some interesting storylines and finishes. That was the case today, as it came down to one putt for Jim Furyk, and the veteran dropped in the par putt on 18 to hold off Luke Donald, and win the tournament. But that wasn’t all. Furyk’s win also put him at the top of the FedEx Cup standings, and he is your 2010 FedEx Cup winner.
Thanks to Fed Ex for Providing This Video
Golf fans, let’s give a big thanks to Fed Ex for providing us with this video. With Fed Ex, you clearly have options. And during the U.S. Open this past weekend at Pebble Beach, it looked like players needed more options to get the ball in the hole. I’d say that there were definitely some who would have preferred to kick the ball towards the cup, as opposed to hitting the difficult shots they had to hit. It’s suppose to be hard on the professionals, but if the the rules of golf allowed the average golfer the kicking option, there [...]
FedEx Cup Point System to Stay the Same
That’s right, golf fans. It seems as though there will be no changes made in the FedEx Cup point system for 2010. Now while I thought that this year’s FedEx Cup was somewhat of a success, this is a little surprising to me. Perhaps it’s not the fact that they aren’t going to change anything, but maybe it’s the fact that they aren’t even going to discuss it is my biggest problem. Couldn’t they at least look over a few things with the entire board present and see if any tweaks need to be made? The current system isn’t perfect [...]
SI's End of 2009 Awards
I was browsing around on Golf.com earlier, and came across the “SI’s End-of-2009 PGA Tour Awards” and found them to be quite interesting. Gary Van Sickle does a great job breaking down some of the things that happened this year.
2009 FedEx Cup Playoffs: Success or Failure?
Now that the FedEx Cup playoffs have come and gone, it’s time to look back and decide whether or not it was a success. I would have to say that despite some of the negativity coming in about the format and other things of that nature, this year’s FedEx Cup would have to be considered a success. Most of the tournaments were exciting, and the only real surprise of the whole thing was Heath Slocum winning The Barclays.
Phil Mickelson is Back!
We all thought Kenny Perry would be the feel good story today if he could hold off Tiger Woods at the Tour Championship. Someone did hold off Tiger, but it wasn’t Perry. It was Phil Mickelson. Mickelson, after being over par for the tournament after round one, finished at 9-under for the championship, three shots ahead of Tiger. I said in my predictions this week that I just hoped Phil would be in contention on Sunday, and he did me one better. He won the whole thing.
Kenny Perry Overtakes Tiger in Round Three
Being a huge Kenny Perry fan, I was excited to see him shoot 64 today at East Lake, and put himself atop the leaderboard after round three of the Tour Championship.
A Familiar Face On Top After Round Two in Atlanta
After a good round yesterday, there was little doubt that Tiger Woods would make his way towards the top of the leaderboard today. Tiger is your leader after two rounds at the Tour Championship, and looks to have all the confidence in the world heading into the weekend.
O'Hair Leads After Round One at East Lake
The Tour Championship got off to a great start today in Atlanta, as the best players in the world kicked off the final tournament in the FedEx Cup playoffs. And fans were not disappointed, as some excellent golf took place in round number one.
