I can’t say that I’m completely shocked by this, but you would have to believe that this is a pretty big blow to the tour, which definitely doesn’t need these kinds of things at this point in time.

Ochoa has been the best player on tour for several years now (dominating from 2006 to 2008 with 21 total wins in that stretch), though her play has went down a little bit after getting married last December. It’s clear that she has other priorities in her life right now, and you can’t blame her for wanting to focus on other things within her family.

It hadn’t happened since April, which is quite unusual for Lorena Ochoa, but she finally broke through and picked up the win today at the Navistar LPGA Classic.

Ochoa only had to shoot a 2-under 70 today to pick up the win, as the next closest people to her were Michelle Wie and Brittany Lang, who finished four shots back.

I know it had to feel good for her to win a tournament again, as people were starting to question if she had dropped down completely. While I’m sure the fact that she’s spending more time in Mexico these days because she’s getting ready to start a family had something with the long space between wins, she’s still one of the best players in the world.

Good to see her playing well again, as it does nothing but help the women’s game.
