Ranking the 2010 Major Championships in Golf
Although we’ve still got a little ways to go in the 2010 PGA Tour season, the major championship season is officially over, and well, it certainly ended with a bang. While it’s no science, it’s always fun to look back and decide which majors I enjoyed most, and which just didn’t have all that much appeal. So with that, let’s take a trip down memory lane, and rank the 2010 major championships in golf.
Unless you were busy playing around in a bunker at your local course on Sunday (because after all, everybody is doing it), chances are, you saw the unusual finish at the 2010 PGA Championship, or at least hear about it. Well, if you were in the group that felt like something that needed to be done about these so-called “bunkers” that looked more like “waste areas,” then you’re probably not gonna like this piece is news from PGA president Jim Remy.
10 Things I Learned From the 2010 PGA Championship
A lot of things happened on Sunday at the 92nd PGA Championship, and people are still trying to wrap their head around just how wild this finish was. We should have known when the final round started that we were due for something out of the ordinary, since as the round progressed, you never had any type of clue as to who would win the tournament. And when we thought we had a potential winner, a bunker issue ruined that. Yes, we learned that Martin Kaymer had the game to claim his first ever major championship. But there’s a lot [...]
Stop and consider this for a moment. Last year at this time, golf’s most valuable star in the history of the game was watching as one of the biggest underdogs in the tournament was hoisting his golf bag above his head in celebration. After all, it was not every day that we saw an unknown player like Y.E. Yang beat Tiger Woods, who was easily the best in the world in the mind of golf fans. A year later, and things on tour have completely changed. Tiger’s star is not as bright as it use to be, as his game [...]
Martin Kaymer Wins the 2010 PGA Championship
Honestly, I’m not even sure how you recap the 2010 PGA Championship. This will go down as one of the strangest endings to not just a major championship, but a PGA Tour event in golf history. Yes, Martin Kaymer did win his first-ever major by defeating Bubba Watson in a playoff. It’s just unfortunate that he’s not going to get the celebration and recognition that he deserves, because all of the talk surrounding this event is going to focus squarely on the PGA’s questionable ruling against Dustin Johnson on the 18th hole.
For people who follow this site regularly, there’s one thing that you know (I’m hoping you’ve learned more though). Nick Watney has become one of my favorite players on tour. When I was watching the 2009 Buick Invitational, there was just something about this guy’s game that I loved. He held off John Rollins to win the tournament by a stroke, and I instantly became a fan. And through three rounds of the 2010 PGA Championship, there’s never been a better time to be a Watney fan, as he finds himself with a three-shot lead entering the final round at [...]
Second round action is still underway at the 92nd PGA Championship, with players still trying to finish their rounds after play was suspended due to darkness yesterday. Matt Kuchar still has a one-shot lead over Nick Watney, but there’s a familiar name that has found himself in the mix, and that name is Jim Furyk. Furyk wrapped up his second round this morning, and fired a 68 to sit only two shots off the lead.
We already know what happened last week at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. It was easily the worst week of professional golf that we have seen Tiger Woods play in his stellar career, and many (including myself), were starting to wonder just how bad things could get for Tiger. Well, instead of carrying over last week’s abomination to this week, he instead came out hot early, and is currently only a few shots off the lead.
2010 PGA Championship TV Schedule
Golf fans, the 2010 PGA Championship has finally arrived, and there is certainly a buzz in the air surrounding golf’s final major of the season. Many are making the statement that this is the most wide open major championship in a long time, due to the uncertainty surrounding Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson right now. Needless to say, this tournament is gonna provide us with plenty of drama and suspense, and will be one of the most watched golf tournaments of the year.
PGA Championship: Picks and Predictions
With the final major of the year less than 24 hours away, I find myself struggling to make a decision of who to pick as my favorites for the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits. On some levels, my Tiger Woods fandom tells me he knows how big this tournament is in respect to his Ryder Cup status and perhaps his Fed Ex Cup point standings. But on the other hand, Tiger is a head case right now and I don’t know what to expect anymore.
Predictions: 2010 PGA Championship
The 2010 PGA Championship is almost upon us, as this year, Whistling Straits will host golf’s final major of the season, with a lot on the line for some of the top players in the game. Tiger Woods will be looking to top his +18 score at the Bridgestone, which shouldn’t be too hard to do. Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson may finally get his chance to be known as the top-ranked player in the world, and also capture his second major championship of the season. But will Tiger or Phil win? Let’s predict.
Three Sleeper Picks for the 2010 PGA Championship
We’re only a few days away from the 2010 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, as the final major of the year is sure to give us plenty of drama and excitement. With Tiger Woods not being the favorite for a first time in, well, forever it seems like, there’s the feel that this tournament could be very wide open. Phil Mickelson will be the favorite heading in, as he’ll be looking for that number one ranking, but he’s not the lock that Tiger use to be in his dominant days.
