The final major championship of the season gets underway tomorrow for the LPGA, as the Women’s British Open takes place at Royal Birkdale. After we saw one of the best professional golf tournaments of the season last week at the Evian Masters, we can only hope that the ladies have another tournament just like it in store for us this week. Who can we expect to win this week? Well I’m glad you asked. Because it’s time for predictions!

The final major championship of the 2010 LPGA season takes place this week at Royal Birkdale, as the ladies do battle at the Women’s British Open. This event will be what we expect from a British Open, as I’m sure we’ll see unpredictable weather become the theme for the week, which will probably lead to some high scores. Here’s a look back at last year’s event at Royal Lytham & St. Annes, which was won by Catriona Matthew, who had just given birth to her second daughter 11 weeks before the championship.
In the new edition of the women’s Rolex Rankings, it’s no surprise who is sitting at number one. With her win yesterday at the Evian Masters, Jiyai Shin is indeed at the top of the new rankings after sitting at fourth in the rankings last week.
Well, just watched the final round of the Evian Masters play out on Golf Channel, and my earlier assumptions were correct. This was one fantastic finish to a golf tournament. In case you missed Jiyai Shin get the win, you can catch another replay of the final round tonight at 9:30 PM ET. Here’s a few more thoughts on today’s final round action.
As you can tell from the title above, we’re stacking up on this week’s predictions, which in all honestly, probably means that I’ll add a few more wrong picks to my career resume. But nevertheless, since the start of the new year, we’ve focused mostly on PGA tour predictions, but now we’re gonna venture out into the LPGA and Champions realm as both tours have two big tournaments taking place this week.
As I’ve stated many times before, the idea behind starting a pro golf blog was fueled by Tom Watson’s performance at the British Open last year. I simply had to write about golf, and I had all the motivation to do so. However, when starting after the British Open, I looked at the schedule. The PGA Tour had the RBC Canadian Open, the LPGA Tour had the Evian Masters, and the senior circuit had the Senior British Open. Not a bad little lineup for a golf fan. But quite honestly, it gave us a little more than we really expected. [...]
While the Tiger Woods press conference and the Accenture Match Play Championship have been the main focus of attention this week for golf fans, some probably forgot that the LPGA kicked things off this week in Thailand.
Well, she almost let it slip away. But in the end, Na Yeon Choi captured the victory at the Samsung World Championship.
In what turned into a two player race for most of the final round, Choi finished at 16-under par for the championship, while Ai Miyazato came in one shot back at 15-under.
After Jiyai Shin had a big day yesterday, Na Yeon Choi decided to come out and top that today. She shot a 9-under 63 to take the lead in San Diego at the Samsung World Championship.
Things can’t get much better for Jiyai Shin right now. She’s been playing some unbelievable golf in her rookie year on the PGA tour, and she’s got the lead at the Samsung World Championship after the second round.
Quick update today, so I apologize for it not being of great length.
Steve Marino and Paul Goydos are your leaders at 9-under par, after both had some great rounds today. Tiger Woods is only five shots back at 4-under, and will certainly be lurking behind the leaders tomorrow evening.
With the Safeway Classic getting underway today at Pumpkin Ridge, I thought I’d offer up a few predictions for this week.
Hopefully the LPGA can carry over some momentum from the Solheim Cup and make this yet another great tournament for the women’s game.
The field is certainly strong, with pretty much all of the big names competing in the Safeway this year, including the players from both Solheim Cup teams. So needless to say, the world’s best will be competing for the trophy this year.
