Inbee Park Captures 12th Career Win in Taiwan

Inbee Park held off a 4th round charge by Stacy Lewis to capture her 3rd 2014 victory and 12th career win at the Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship, which brings her into a tie with Yani Tseng at 39th on the LPGA all-time winner list.  Lewis went into the final round at 17-under par, trailing Park by four shots and determined to close the gap.  She started her round with 3 birdies and by the turn was trailing Park by a single shot.  Both players seemed to slow down on the back nine but with a birdie 17th Park opened her lead to two shots with one hole remaining.  She couldn’t be caught.

Inbee Park carded a 4th round 71, one-under par, but it was all she needed to hold the top of the leaderboard. She hit the clutch shots when she needed to en route to her victory, including a key chip-in bogey save after having to take a drop on the par-4 9th and a birdie on the par-3 17th which extended her lead to two strokes with two holes to play.

It was a tough day and I got nervous on every hole today, even on the 18th – Inbee Park

Even with her hot start — a string of 3 birdies — Lewis wasn’t able to gain the lead.  As we saw at the Wegman’s LPGA Championship during her playoff with Brittany Lincicome, Inbee Park is a fierce competitor who seems to play her best under intense pressure.

Lewis understands this aspect of her closest competitor.

I don’t think this is the last time we’ll be battling at the end of a tournament.  I think we’re both playing some really good golf right now, and it’s unfortunate I guess for the fans, it’s the end of the season, but we have a few tournaments left and hopefully we’ll do it again.Stacy Lewis on playing with Inbee Park

Lewis and Park will meet again in two weeks when the Tour returns to the western hemisphere to complete the 2014 season, at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational, November 13-16 in Mexico.
