PGA TOUR Power Rankings: OHL Classic at Mayakoba
The 24th-ranked player in the world today, Charley Hoffman got back into competition at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open this past week. He took a solid break in the month of October, after playing nine events in the final ten weeks of the PGA TOUR’s 2016-17 schedule. Fresh and recharged, he should enjoy the upcoming tournament in Mexico, where he’s had some success in the past.
It hasn’t all been sunshine and beaches for Hoffman at Mayakoba, but the fact remains that he came out on top here just three short years ago. That week, Hoffman posted bookend rounds of 66 to outlast Shawn Stafani by a single stroke, coming in at -17.
That Hoffman has missed the cut in each of the past two years at El Camaleon is troubling, but not enough to eliminate him from my list of top contenders. As a matter of fact, the San Diego native and UNLV alum missed the cut at the Shriners in each of the last three years, before coming back to finish inside the top 20 this past week.
Hoffman hasn’t missed a cut since April’s RBC Heritage, and he’s posted five additional top-tens in that stretch. Look for him to find No. 6 this week in Mexico.
