Rickie Fowler Quicken Loans National

Rickie Fowler started the PGA TOUR season out hot winning one of the first tournaments of the year, the Hero World Challenge, but after that his year was mostly a disappointment. And, unfortunately, the Hero isn’t an official tournament, either.

He is currently the best player on tour without a major victory, and that story line is going to follow him around until he wins one. The “best not to win a major” title is something of a backhanded compliment, but that label is somewhat unfair to Fowler because he has been in the hunt a few times in his career. In the Masters, Fowler got as close as he has in his entire career by finishing in 2nd place, one stroke behind the eventual winner Patrick Reed.

Fowler’s next best finish did not come until the final major of the season in the PGA Championship. He finished tied for 12th at eight-under par but never really threatened for the lead at any point on the weekend. Fowler will once again be on the hot seat when major season rolls around next year to win his first major and validate the star attention he receives.
