McIlroy’s only win on tour this season came in the Arnold Palmer Invitational back in March, and a lone victory is not up to his standards considering he has a shot at winning every tournament he plays in.

It has been a full four years now since Rory McIlroy won his last major, a drought no one would have expected when he rallied off four major victories from 2011-2014. This season he had up and down performances in majors throughout the year.

McIlroy started the year out strong with a top five finish at the Masters, but then he crashed and burned at the U.S. Open and missed the cut. He bounced back with a terrific performance at the Open Championship finishing tied for second place, and then in the PGA Championship he disappointed, finishing tied for 50th.

In the beginning of his career, McIlroy’s was pointed in the direction of being one of the best golfers of his generation. After this long streak without a major victory he has to be getting frustrated with his play in big tournaments. If he can win a major next season, he will be right back into the conversation as the top player in golf.
