FedEx Cup: Ten bubble players likely to make the TOUR Championship
Rory McIlroy hasn’t played that often this year, only appearing in 16 tournaments. When he has played, though, he has done quite well. Rory finds himself with five top 10’s out of the 12 tournaments he has made the cut in.
Only needing to finish in the top 40 or so, Rory came out eliminating any doubt over the first two days. Currently McIlroy is tied for 7th at -9, most of which came on a fantastic Thursday, where he had 10 birdies and just two bogeys for a 62.
Rory has been a monster of the tee this season. He leads golf in driving average, at 320.2. The accuracy is a different animal, as he is 167th, only hitting the fairway 55.38% of the time. He has still managed well, coming in 11th in shots gained off the tee.
With the Ryder Cup coming up soon, Rory’s success their should carry over throughout the rest of the season. He has a great record at 9-6-4, and should look to that to help him fight for a win at the BMW.
Not satisfied with just making it to East Lake, a strong finish at the BMW will vault Rory into contention for the cup. Watch for Rory to finish out the weekend strong in the top five to make that a real possibility.
