Coming in at No.8 on the Power Rankings leaderboard ahead of the AFRASIA BANK Mauritius Open is South African Daniel van Tonder, who performed very well on home soil last week.

He came home in solo 6th spot at the Alfred Dunhill Championship, and he is making the most of the opportunities to play these bigger events, as he does not have a European Tour card.

Van Tonder is a member of the Sunshine Tour, which co-sanctions a number of events on the European Tour, including last week’s Alfred Dunhill and this week’s tournament in Mauritius, among several other across the calendar year.

Nevertheless, van Tonder is still coming into the AFRASIA BANK Mauritius Open in good form, thanks to that 6th place finish in Malelane last week. He also has four other top ten finishes in his last eight events, including a T3 finish at the Sibaya Challenge on the Sunshine Tour.

He is the first South African on our list for this week’s event, with the nation once again providing a good chunk of the field for the tournament.

He is one of few players to have played in all four previous editions of the AFRASIA BANK Mauritius Open, having made the cut twice, including a T35 finish at the Four Seasons Resort in 2016. His best finish at the Heritage is T55 in the inaugural event a year earlier, and van Tonder will be looking to better that this week.
