The ‘wildcard’ choice, as such, for this week’s Power Rankings ahead of the ISPS Handa Vic Open is one of the many Australians to be featured on home soil, Geoff Ogilvy.

The Australian is a former major champion, having won the U.S. Open at Winged Foot back in 2006, with one of the highest winning scores in the history of the tournament, as he took the title after finishing the week at +5.

Ogilvy has also won three World Golf Championship events, including two WGC-Accenture Match Play titles, victorious in both 2006 and 2009, with a win at the WGC-CA Championship in 2008.

Having been as high as World No.3, Ogilvy now sits at World No.1669, following just five appearances over the course of the 2019 calendar year, sitting out eight months of it.

The Australian has been in poor form over the last two years, having only made the cut at four tournaments in that time period. He finished in a tie for 12th at the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship on the PGA TOUR in March 2018, before a T32 result at the AT&T Byron Nelson eight weeks later.

Ogilvy finished inside the top 35 at last year’s ISPS Handa Vic Open, one of just two made cuts in the last twelve months, but could this be the week that the former major champion returns to his best?
