2021 AT&T Byron Nelson: Top 10 picks at TPC Craig Ranch
It’s tough to keep a player out of the top 10 this week who claims to have the TPC Craig Ranch course record.
“I think I still own the course record, either 60 or 61 from the back tees about 10 years ago,” Palmer was quoted by Avid Golfer’s Art Stricklin. “There are a few holes that the PGA Tour will have to alter to make it tougher for the pros, but they’re pretty good at that. “They will have pure greens and wide-open spaces and you will have some low scores.”
Palmer is a native Texan who resides less than 30 miles away in Colleyville.
He thrives on playing in the Lone Star state and is a good wind player. He finished solo second at the 2011 Byron Nelson and was T-3rd in 2016 at Colonial.
The 44-year-old ranks 32nd on the PGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee (.363). He’s also a good long iron player, backed up by ranking sixth in approaches from 200-225 yards (34’9”). Plus, he’s seventh in holes per eagle (90) and fourth in par-5 scoring (4.46). Those are things you like to see on long par-72 courses.
Palmer was off last week resting up to try to keep his made cuts streak alive. It’s up to eight after he posted T-63rd at the Valspar Championship a couple weeks ago. That was his worst result of the bunch as he’s got two fourth-place finishes, T-2nd at the Farmers Insurance Open and seventh with Jon Rahm at the Zurich Classic.
