After a disappointing missed cut at the PGA Championship, Scottie Scheffler admirably got back on the horse the next week and contended at Colonial.

The Dallas native led for much of the way on Sunday in Fort Worth, but couldn’t quite hang on in difficult conditions to win it in regulation. Who knows how the playoff would have gone if Sam Burns didn’t jar a birdie putt from off the green on the first extra hole.

The two are friends. It’s hard to see this one eating away at Scheffler too much.

“I kind of joked with him at the end, he ruined all the fun making a 40-footer,” Scheffler was transcribed by ASAP Sports. “It was definitely good to see him win. He’s obviously a great player and got a bright future ahead.”

Alas, it was another huge check for the 25-year-old who’s already collected four victories in 2022, including his green jacket.

He took a much-deserved week off before gearing back up for Brookline.

Scheffler, like most this week, is a debutant at St. George’s. This is also his first RBC Canadian Open appearance. He won’t like the short layout with tight fairways given his driving ability.

He’s still proven to be a chameleon who can win at a variety of courses. Scheffler has all the shots in his bag, even if he doesn’t look the prettiest executing them.

The former Texas Longhorn ranks sixth on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained (1.617) and is 63rd or better in every category.

Scheffler’s third in birdie average (4.82) and could go scary low if a soft course allows him to throw darts.
