Now that The 2014 season is at the mid-point of the Major Championship schedule, two players were able to notch the second win of their careers at a major venue. Of course, Bubba Watson picked up his second Green Jacket at Augusta back in April, and Martin Kaymer got halfway to a career slam at Pinehurst last week with a US Open win on his resume.

With the third major coming next month at Hoylake on the Royal Liverpool Golf Course, it’s time to start talking about players who are high in the Official World Golf Rankings, and have yet to close the deal in a major.

Phil Mickelson will be the defending champion, and isn’t playing well at this juncture with no top 10 finishes on the year, and the defending champion at Royal Liverpool is, Tiger Woods. Tiger won his third Claret Jug in 2006, and has not won a major since the 2008 US Open at Torrey Pines.

Five players who are at a point of their career where they need to add a Major Championship to their resume’s if they want to be remembered in history with the worlds best, and with the big guns not playing well, or coming back from injuries, the Open Championship would be a good place to get the proverbial monkey off their collective backs.
