Justin Rose. Tommy Fleetwood. Matthew Fitzpatrick.

What do these men have in common? They’re all looking up at Tyrrell Hatton as top-ranked Englishman.

The fiery Hatton has harnessed his energy into a top-10 spot in the Official World Golf Rankings for the first time in his career.

The 29 year old looks to be a future star on the European Tour Ryder Cup team. For now, he’s emerging as one of the Masters favorites.

This week, he’s my No. 1 guy. You know a guy’s playing well when a T-28th like he pulled in at his last start at the Zozo Championship.

That’s because in the month prior he finished seventh (fifth gross) at the Tour Championship, first at the European Tour’s top event, the BMW PGA Championship and T-3rd at the CJ Cup.

This all didn’t happen out of the blue. He had four previous titles on the European Tour and broke through for the first time on the PGA Tour early in 2020 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Hatton isn’t one of the bombers, but he’s long enough to hang around in today’s power era. He’s sharp all throughout the bag and ranked no worse than 64th in any strokes gained category on the PGA Tour last season.

Iron play is his strong suit. Hatton ranked top 10 in proximity from inside 125 yards and led at 25’3” from 175-200. These should be common approach distances at Memorial Park.

He’s still relatively new to the PGA Tour, so it should be to his advantage that the entire field is seeing the course for the first time.

Give me Hatton in Houston.
