And the Public is Officially Turning on Tiger

First off, as some of my usual readers will notice, we’ve switched the blog over to the FanSided.com network, which is an exciting move for everyone involved. I’d like to thank Zach Best for giving us a great opportunity to spread our passionate views on golf to an even wider audience, and we’re going to add other bloggers onto the blog as well so that we can give you your golf fix whenever you want it, and give you plenty of opinions in the process.

Now, to the news of the day which involves the media’s new favorite fallen superstar, Mr. Tiger Woods.

Even if you don’t watch golf, have never heard of golf, or don’t know that golfers use clubs to hit the ball, you probably know that Woods has been in the news a lot over the past few weeks. One thing after another keeps coming out about his private life, and the media continues to pick it apart piece by piece.

At first, when we found out about the car accident that Tiger had in front of his home, there were a few ways to look at it. One, he was “seriously injured” and his life or his career could be threatened by it. Two, perhaps he was under the influence, which would hurt his near-perfect image, though it would be something that would eventually fade away. However, no one could predict the eventual spiral that Woods’ image would take, and now there is some statistics to prove it.

According to a Rasmussen survey, only 38% of those surveyed view Woods in a favorable manner at this point in time. Yes, 38%. Again, this was the guy that was pretty much loved by everyone. He was golf. And while he may still be golf on the golf course, he’s no longer golf off of the golf course. He can’t be, because the people have turned against him, and they’ve got some good reasons for doing so.

While I do think that there are members and groups of the media that thrive on seeing a star fall, and some of those groups have reared their ugly heads, Woods has brought this on himself. Now, when I refer to “this,” I am referring to the cheating and affairs. I’m not referring to this morning’s “big” story where his mother-in-law was sent to the hospital. To me, that doesn’t have a whole lot to do with any of these other issues. Sure, people could speculate as to why she went to the hospital, but it turned out to be not that big of an issue, and should only be seen as a case of some really bad timing for Tiger.

As for the affairs, no one really knows but Tiger and the women as to whether or not all of these occurred. We’ve seen it time and time again where women will come out and claim to be a mistress of a popular star when something like this happens, and though we do have some evidence on a few of them, especially after hearing the voicemail, we don’t have evidence on all of them.

As Tiger said, he is human. Things like this happen every single day all over the world. But not everyone is named Tiger Woods, and aren’t considered to be the best in human history at what they do. While I do agree that he has been the victim of some media attacks, and that the media will continue to dig up every possible thing that they can on him, he has to know better than this. In the age that we live in that is news-driven, he has to know that this is going to come out, and that it is going to completely change the way that people view him.

And it looks like those changes are already taking place.
