Predictions: BMW Championship

We’re halfway through the 2010 FedEx Cup playoffs, and now it’s time to get ready for the BMW Championship, as there is always a lot on the line for those still in the race for the cup. This is the place where players can build some great momentum before heading into The Tour Championship next weekend in Atlanta. Matt Kuchar and Charley Hoffman have picked up wins already in this year’s playoffs, but can one of them take complete control with a win this week? Let’s get right to predictions!

Here are my five favorites for the week:

Matt Kuchar

I’ve gotta start with Kuchar, not just because he’s in the lead right now in the standings, but because he’s proven throughout the entire year that he can contend pretty much anywhere. He wasn’t red hot last week like he’s been in previous weeks, but I would expect him to bounce back here with an excellent performance. Perhaps he can bring back the good vibe he had at Cog Hill, when he won U.S. Amateur, and he also had a Top 10 at this course last year. With the way he’s been playing recently, not picking him might be a mistake.

Adam Scott

Speaking of players who have been on a roll lately, Scott is one that is due for a win. He’s had several Top 10s lately, and this seems like the kind of course that will suit his game. After the tough year he had in 2009, it’s been nice to see him come back with a new focus this year, and he’s really played well for the most part. He could really make an even bigger statement with a win at Cog Hill, as he finished fourth here three years ago. When he’s got the putter going, watch out. He’s going to be a factor this week.

Tiger Woods

This is the first time I’ve included Tiger in my favorites list in a good while. But I honestly feel like he might be ready to cash in and get his first victory of 2010. He’s the defending champion of this event, and it just feels like he’s starting to turn things around a little bit. He had a nice finish last week, and that may give him the confidence to come out and get off to a fast start this week. It still might be too early to pick him to win, but I’ve just got this feeling that he’s going to be right in the mix on Sunday.

Steve Stricker

Stricker had a tough finish last week, but he always seems to play well in the FedEx Cup playoffs, so I don’t think that will get him too down heading into this event. I think the final round in Boston is just a case of a bad round, and not something that should carry over into this week. This seems like the perfect scenario for him to get a win, as he’s played well here in the past, and again, aside from the final round, he’s been pretty solid lately. Picking against him in the playoffs is never an easy task.

Brandt Snedeker

Unfortunately for Snedeker, one bad round has cost him a chance at several wins as of late, even though he’s been extremely consistent aside from his final round performances. He has to get over the hump at some point, and he finished in the Top 10 here last year, and had a Top 5 last week. So it seems like the best place for him to get over the final round troubles, right? I hope so, since he is a Vandy guy (go Dores), because he really deserves to get a win right now.

And the winner is…..

I’ll keep this simple: Woods. Yep that’s right ladies and gentlemen. I’ve just got a feeling that this is the week for him to get a win, and officially send his career going back in the right direction. I was in the group that thought he might be done after the troubles at Firestone last month, but I’ve seen a different player the past few weeks, and I think he wins this tournament for the second year in a row.
