We all remember seeing a 19 year-old Sergio Garcia hitting the shot at Medinah in the 1999 PGA Championship, and running up the fairway to see it land. It would be his first of five top 10 finishes in every major, and the first of two at The PGA. He lost in 99 to Tiger Woods, and again in 2008 to Padraig Harrington.
The 34 year-old Spaniard was able to get a solo second place finish at the 2007 Open Championship, a T 3 in the 2005 US Open at Pinehurst, and his best finish at August was a T4 in the 2004 Masters.
Sergio is currently ranked 8th in the Official World Golf Rankings, and is ranked 34th in FedEx Cup points. He has had a decent finish on the PGA Tour with five top ten’s in nine starts and only one missed cut coming at Augusta.
He has nine starts on the European Tour with a win at Qatar earlier in the season, and is ranked 10th in the Race to Dubai.
Sergio has for the most part, played pretty well during the 2014 season and the difference between winning and getting close has been his putter. He continues to use the scissor grip, and when he rolls them in, can get on the leaderboard quickly.
His quirky laid-off back-swing has continued to cause him at least one bad round in a tournament. If he can get all four days to work for him, he will get that major championship, maybe this year!
