Henrik Stenson is coming off what had to be a dream season for the 38 year-old Swede in 2013. He made a ton of money by winning both the FedEx Cup on the PGA Tour, and The Race To Dubai on the European Tour.
Quoting that his schedule was absurd after winning both titles last year, his golf game suffered for the most part of the 2014 season. I had picked him in my power rankings to win a major this year, and had picked him to win the US Open at Pinehurst.
A less than confident putter, and a total disconnect last Sunday, along with solid play from Martin Kaymer netted a fourth place finish at Pinehurst.
Stenson is ranked number two in the Official World Golf Rankings, and like Garcia, has had nine starts on the PGA Tour this year and missed one cut. That coming at the Honda Classic.
The only major that Stenson has not finished with a top ten is The Masters. His best finish at Augusta was a T14 this year. He has had top tens at the rest of the majors.
Along with the T4 at Pinehurst this year, he had a solo second last year at the Open Championship, and a solo third at the PGA Championship.
At 38 years old, he needs to make it happen, and needs to make it happen soon.
