The bright spot in Matt Kuchar’s seven PGA Tour victories has to be the 2012 Players Championship where he held off four players to get the win at TPC Sawgrass.
Unfortunately, The Kuch went from 2002 when he won the Honda Classic until August 2010 before he picked up his second quality win at the Barclay’s. Of course he came up at the same time as Tiger Woods, and suffered the same problems that most players from that time frame had to deal with.
His best finish in a major was a T3 at the 2012 Masters. Matt has had a top ten in each of the majors, and with Tiger winning 14 of them over the past 17 years that didn’t leave many for the rest of the players.
Matt Kuchar is currently ranked fifth in Official World Golf Rankings, and is third in FedEx Cup points. He has made 14 cuts in 16 events during the 2014 season, and missed his first cut in 122 starts at the Northern Trust Open at the end of the West Coast Swing.
The first official win came at The RBC Heritage right after he had a T5 at Augusta the previous week. Kuchar hasn’t played poorly this year, but like Sergio, seems to find one round during a tournament to screw-up the works.
If Matt Kuchar can put four rounds together at Hoylake, I can see him winning a Claret Jug this year, but don’t give him much of a chance at Valhalla.
