2015 Honda Classic Fantasy Sleeper Picks
By Danny Norris
The PGA Tour moves down to Florida and will stay there for the next few weeks for the Florida swing. We are starting the Florida swing with the Honda Classic. This is one of those tournaments that isn’t a major or a WGC event, but it has a lot of cache. This is a significant tournament played on a fantastic course, the PGA National, and it brings out everybody around the world.
One of the many notable golfers here include: Lee Westwood, Graeme McDowell, Dustin Johnson, Charl Schwartzel, Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, and the number one golfer in the world, Rory McIlroy.

As expected, McIlroy is far and away the favorite to win the Honda Classic and his price over on DraftKings reflects that. Next week will be very interesting to see what McIlroy’s price – and everybody else for that matter – is at the WGC-Cadillac Championship as that will give a pretty good idea as to what the prices will be for The Masters.
The big key this week is that for all four days at the Honda Classic, the weather is supposed to be rainy, wet, and very windy. If that’s true, you may want to look at some golfers that can play effectively in the wind and rain. So, keep that in mind when picking golfers this week.
With that said, let’s get into the Honda Classic fantasy sleeper picks this week.
Fredrik Jacobson– Fredrik Jacobson is a solid all-around golfer. He putts extremely well and he is one of the better iron players on Tour. He can stick shots from 175 yards away.
Jacobson hasn’t played much, but he’s been on point in his last two PGA Tour events. At the Waste Management Phoenix Open, Jacobson finished T-7, and at the Farmers Insurance Open, Jacobson finished T-32.
Over the years, Jacobson has played the PGA National extremely well. Since 2010, Jacobson hasn’t missed a cut and his worse finish was T-29. Last year he finished T-12, in 2013 he finished T-25, 2012: T-16, 2011: T-29, and 2010: T-6.
Marc Leishman– Remember what I said about the weather? Well, this is where it really applies. Not only is Leishman a sleeper pick, but he’s an even better pick given the circumstances. Leishman is one of the better wind players on Tour.
Leishman did miss the cut last week, but I’m not worried about that at all. Everyone has a bad week on Tour and how many times do we see a golfer miss a couple of cuts and compete for the win the very next week? It has happens quite a bit, so don’t be concerned over that.
Leishman hasn’t played the Honda Classic much and his success has varied. In 2013, Leishman finished T-55, in 2012 he missed the cut, but in 2011 Leishman did finish T-17.
I just like what Leishman brings to the table this week at Honda and if the weather is miserable, I do like Leishman’s chances because that does fit his game.
Daniel Summerhays– Daniel Summerhays has gotten better and better the more he plays here at the Honda Classic. In 2011 and in 2012 he missed the cut. In 2013 he finished T-58 and that was after a disastrous weekend which included a 78 on the final day.
Last year, though Summerhays finished T-12. Summerhays has played well this year, he is figuring out the PGA National, and he plays well in the wind. In terms of value this week, Summerhays is probably the best pick.
Stephen Gallacher– Stephen Gallacher is kind of a flyer pick. I’m kind of just sticking with the weather theme. It’s a real skill to play in the wind and rain. He played last year at the Honda Classic, but missed the cut. Keep that in mind when making your picks.
