Group 3: I typically don’t take defending champions at tournaments, but I might make an exception this time. Mo Martin has proved over the last full year that she isn’t just a one-hit wonder.

Martin has had a rock solid year, she has made the cut in her last six tournaments and has finished inside the top 27 in four of those tournaments as well.

She is designed to play well at British Opens for years and years. She is a superb ball-striker, very accurate, mentally strong, and controls her ball beautifully in the wind.

I wouldn’t expect her to win again, but making the cut and finishing inside the top 25 is very realistic.

Much like in group 2, it’s tough to find that balance of good form and a good history at the British Open. Hyang-Mi Lee, Brooke Henderson, Charley Hull, and Brittany Lang are are playing well, but they have struggled at British Opens. It’s tough to trust them.

All in all, I think Martin is the pick. She’ll probably be the most popular pick on here, but I feel my other picks are against-the-grain enough that going with the popular pick in the group isn’t that big of a deal.
