Worst – Rickie Fowler

Before I get started with Rickie, I just want to preface this by saying he wasn’t the worst golfer at majors this season, but rather the most disappointing. With that being said, allow me to get started.

After the major performance Fowler had in 2014, this season was truly a disappointment. He had four top five finishes at each major last year and many thought this would be the year he would get his first major victory. Rickie beat 97.7% of his competitors in majors in 2014, but unfortunately that was not the case this year.

Fowler’s best finish at a major this season came at the Masters where he finished tied for 12th. After the Masters, he made a major statement with his victory at THE PLAYERS Championship, which built his confidence as he entered the peak of major season.

Coming off his statement victory, Fowler entered Chambers Bay for the U.S. Open and shot an opening round 81. He did eight shots better in his second round with a 73, but it simply was not enough and he missed the cut.

Next up for Rickie was The Open Championship, but not before he made a quick stop in Scotland for the Scottish Open. He would end up having a thrilling finish to win the event a week before the British Open.

With another victory under his belt and a head full of confidence, Fowler headed to St. Andrews hoping his recent victory at a links-style course would translate at the Home of Golf.

Other than a 66 on Saturday, his rounds remained in the 70s for the week and he couldn’t find any of his winning magic. Fowler settled with a tie for 30th and prepared for the final major of the season at Whistling Straits.

Another mediocre showing for Rickie awaited him at the PGA Championship. All four of his rounds were in the 70s and his major season came to a close in disappointment.

With Jason Day picking up his first major victory, pressure is starting to transition to Fowler as he awaits his first major win. Fowler played some great golf outside of the majors this season, but when it really counted, he couldn’t come through.
