Worst – Tiger Woods

Easily one of the most disappointing major seasons goes to Tiger Woods. After missing the cut at the Waste Management Phoenix Open and a withdraw from the Farmers Insurance Open, Eldrick entered the Masters with no one really knowing what to expect.

Regardless, the expectations were low, but Big Cat came out with one of his most impressive showings of the season. He surprised many with his performance, which was good enough to tie for 17th. This would be the peak of Tiger’s season and the best he would do in any tournament all year long.

  • From there, it was a long and miserable road down to rock bottom. He raised everyone’s expectations after his solid finish at at the Masters, but followed that up with T69-71-CUT in his next three events, bringing the expectations back down as he headed into Chambers Bay, a trip he probably wishes he wouldn’t have taken.

The U.S. Open was one of the most atrocious showings of Tiger Woods career. He managed to hit only 16 fairways and 21 greens in regulation. He only had three birdies over two rounds and needed 73 putts in 36 holes (2.03 putts per hole). He posted rounds of 80-76 and only beat four people in the field, but hey, at least he beat the 15-year old amateur.

From one miserable performance to another, Woods packed his bags and went to embarrass himself across the pond for The Open Championship. Tiger has won three British Opens in his career and two of them came from St. Andrews.

But the way he played that week at the Old Course was as if he had never even seen the course in his life. Old Tom Morris was probably rolling over in his grave from being so offended by his showing.

Tiger shot 76-75 to miss the cut by seven strokes. It was the first time he’s ever missed consecutive cuts at majors in his career and it didn’t stop there.

Big Cat went back home to check his “spin rates” and headed up to Whistling Straits, where more trouble awaited him. After rounds of 75-73, Tiger sat 15 strokes back of the leader and missed his third consecutive cut. He finished his major season with seven straight rounds over par, the longest streak of his career.

It was easily the worse major season of his career and one of the most disappointing seasons any golfer, especially for a guy who used to be the number one golfer in the world.
