1. Dustin Johnson

If we are talking about the best golfer without a major right now as we head into 2016 the answer is Dustin Johnson.

Johnson has won at least one tournament for the last eight seasons in a row now and he has finished inside the top ten in at least one major since 2009.

  • Plus, in 2015, Johnson finished inside the top ten in three of the four majors. The only major he didn’t finish in the top ten was at The Open Championship where he held the lead heading into the third round.

As we talked about with Stenson, Dustin Johnson is one of these golfers that is so talented and has accomplished a lot in his career that it’s a shame he hasn’t won a major yet.

Unlike Stenson, however, Johnson still has plenty of time to rectify that. Johnson is still in his early 30’s and will have plenty of opportunities to win a major. Next year sets up well for him.

Augusta is built for a power hitter like Johnson and he continues to gain that valuable experience there. In 2015, he finished in the top ten for the first time. Johnson has played The Open Championship well over the years and he could potentially overpower Royal Troon.

The PGA Championship for 2016 will be held at Baltusrol which is a big boy course. Baltusrol is a par 70 that is over 7,400 yards which includes two par 4’s that are over 500 yards and one par 5 that is over 600 yards.

Johnson just has to put it all together for four rounds. Well, you know what, check me on that, he is so talented he doesn’t necessarily have to be on point for all four rounds; he just can’t have that blow up round.

D.J. is good enough to play great for three rounds and if he just plays decent for the fourth that would be good enough to win a major. Doing that would have been good enough to win the 2010 U.S. Open, that’s for sure.
