2015 Solheim Cup Team Europe (Video)
Carlota Ciganda is a fierce and fearsome match player. Like Azahara Munoz, who will most likely be her four ball and foursomes partner in Germany, Ciganda has been playing championship-level competitive golf since she was a teenager.
Like Munoz, Ciganda played her collegiate golf at Arizona State and turned pro in 2011, when she completed her education, playing first on the Ladies European Tour and then the LPGA.
Ciganda’s career took off like a skyrocket. She notched two wins on the LET in 2012, her rookie year, and collected Rookie of the Year, Order of Merit, and Player of the Year awards, and followed that with a third victory in 2013. She’s also recorded five top-10 finishes in LPGA events and it’s just a matter of time before Cignada steps into the Tour’s first time champion’s circle.
At her 2013 Solheim Cup appearance Cignada defeated Morgan Pressel 4 & 2 in their singles match and, playing with Suzann Pettersen, also picked up a points for the Europeans in the four ball. She and Munoz followed their 2013 Solheim appearance with a stunning Spanish victory at the 2014 International Crown.
Ciganda’s going to be tough to beat in Germany. Captain Inkster will need to select her opponents carefully.
