$11,800 to $9,000
We typically don’t combine the five digits with the $9,000 range, but there’s only three golfers in that range – Bubba Watson ($9,700), Zach Johnson ($9,300), and Jim Furyk ($9,000) – and I’m not all that high on them.
Johnson and Furyk are good cash plays as they make cuts and provide a high floor. But, if you are going for the DraftKings 100K top prize or any of the other GPP tournaments, you’ll want golfers that have the ceiling to win at this price point.
Johnson has made the cut here the last five years, but his best finish is 16th in the last five years.
Furyk finished in the top ten back in 2011, but the last couple of years he has finished T-23 and T-27. Just consistent, solid finishes. They may not be the greatest GPP plays, but very good cash game plays.
You would think Watson would have played well at a course like TPC Boston, but he hasn’t. Watson has only finished inside the top 30 twice in the last five years. He is a skip for me this week.
So, as I mentioned above, we are just combining these two ranges and I’ve already talked about the $9,000 dollar range, so, there you go. Now, let’s get to the five digit range.

We have a change at the top as Jason Day ($11,800) has surpassed Jordan Spieth ($11,300) and Rory McIlroy ($11,200) for this week as the most expensive golfer. And it’s for good reason. Day has had a fantastic year and he has been the best golfer for the past couple of months now.
Also, Day has been very successful at TPC Boston. Day has finished inside the top 13 four out of the last five years.
I like everybody in the five digit range except for Justin Rose ($10,200).
Surprisingly enough, Rose has a pretty spotty history here at TPC Boston. Rose has missed the cut two out of the last four years here. I’m a big fan of Rose, but with better options in this price range, I will be fading him this week.
Dustin Johnson ($10,800) and Henrik Stenson ($10,500) are both treading in the right direction and both have the kind of games that translate well to TPC Boston.
Johnson has finished inside the top five in two of his last five starts at the Deutsche Bank Championship, while Stenson won back in 2013.
If I had to pick just one I would probably go with Stenson just because he is the cheapest option of the five. McIlroy isn’t far behind though. I feel McIlroy will be right in the mix this weekend. He has finished inside the top five in two of the last three years, including a win back in 2012.
McIlroy played well at the PGA Championship finishing 17th and that was with him not playing competitively since the U.S. Open and coming off a severe ankle injury.
