The Open Championship

Winner: Dustin Johnson

The Open Championship is the biggest wild card of the majors. This year, or, well not this year, but in 2016, The Open will be played at Royal Troon. There is no distinct advantage for shorter or longer hitters.

Who wins The Open is usually determined by what tee time you get on Thursday and Friday. The weather plays a huge part in Open Championships which is why this is arguably the hardest major to handicap.

When you have a major that is so dependent on the luck of the draw, you may as well grab a blindfold and grab a few darts and hope something hits. With that, I’m going with a golfer that has played really well at Open Championships, but hasn’t gotten over the hump.

  • I’m going to say everything finally falls into place for Dustin Johnson and he gets his first major championship.

I thought about Sergio Garcia, as well, because if Garcia will win a major it’ll come at The Open, but it’s tough to pull the trigger on Garcia.

Look out for your suspects, Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, Henrik Stenson, Rickie Fowler, they are all good bets. Just about everybody is in play. The luck of the draw may finally be on Lee Westwood’s side and he could put it all together four 72 holes. You never know.

One last golfer I’ll also mention is Brooks Koepka. I have a sneaky feeling Koepka is going to have a really good year in 2016. I wouldn’t be surprised if he won The Open, but worse case I think he’ll be in contention at The Open Championship.

I’m banking on him playing well at Royal Troon and using that momentum to play well a couple of weeks after The Open Championship.
