23. Jon Hamm
14-Handicap
The Mad Men star first got started with the game when he was about 10 years old thanks to his grandfather. His grandpa’s friends built a course during World War II in Southern Missouri and he learned to play with the 9 holes available.
Hamm told GOLF.com that he peaked when he graduated from college and moved to California. He started playing a lot and got himself down to a 10-11 handicap, but unfortunately that’s when he started his acting career and he stopped playing as much.
Growing up in Southern Missouri, Jon is an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and friends with St. Louis native Joe Buck. The two play golf together whenever they run into each other.
Hamm is also a graduate of the University of Missouri and has played in the charity event hosted by ESPN anchor and fellow Mizzou Tiger, John Anderson. I had an opportunity to see him at the event one year. Here he is doing an on-course interview:
When GOLF.com asked him his dream foursome, Hamm responded:
"I’d love to play with Lee Trevino, because he seems like a real fun guy who’s got a lot of great stories. Also Ray Romano, because nobody gets down on himself quite like Ray about how bad he’s playing so that makes you feel better about your game. Tiger, I would love to play with that guy, I’ve seen him swing the club and I am utterly fascinated by how that guy hits a golf ball. That would be a pretty fun foursome, right?"
