2015 Solheim Cup Comeback Sunday!
Mel Reid faced down her personal demons when she teed it up at the 2015 Solheim Cup and she proved to everyone — but most importantly, to herself — that her career is back on track.
She and Charley Hull delivered overwhelming fire power in their foursomes match against Michelle Wie and Brittany Lincicome and then she came back Friday afternoon and with Carlota Ciganda took the Kerr-Thompson team to an all square finish.
Reid and Ciganda came back Saturday morning with more fire power and put another point on the board for Team Europe and Reid was one of only three Europeans able to collect a point on Sunday. What a game Reid has in her bag!
It’s no secret that I’m a consummate Charley Hull fan. I think Hull is a diamond in the rough who is only going to get stronger and better as she adds years to her experience. I thoroughly appreciate her approach to the game: “Hit the ball, go find it, and hit it again.”
She’s a breath of fresh air in a world where competitive athletes can and often do take themselves and their sport a bit too seriously. Hull played on the winning team four times, losing only to Cristie Kerr is their Sunday singles match. That’s 90 holes of golf in 3 days, all of it championship-level play. And if you look closely at Hull’s scorecard for her Sunday round, you’ll find nothing but pars and birdies.
Sandra Gal never stopped smiling. She delivered her usual first class game in front of home town crowds and the pride and joy she clearly felt through the entire Solheim Cup experience captured the spirit of this particularly special competition in a way that no other aspect of the event did for me.
