#45: Webb Simpson–At the outset of the 2011 season, Tiger Woods was more than a year removed from his most recent victory; the game of golf was rife with parity, perhaps the most there had been since the ’90s. Enter Simpson, who became that year’s dominant American player–two wins, three runner-ups and the number two spot on the money list were the spoils of his campaign. Simpson’s real career highlight, however, came the following year, when he shot twin 68s on the weekend to seize the U.S. Open at Olympic Club. Since then, things haven’t been great for the Wake Forest product–with just one win at a mediocre event under his belt, he’s slipped. We’ll have to wait and see how he responds to a full season of non-anchored putting.
