Going into the fall season with 104 points and trailing Inbee Park by 139 points, Lexi Thompson is still a long shot for capturing the Player of the Year award.  But the winner of the 2015 Meijer LPGA Classic is in a different position than Lincicome.

  • Thompson’s game seems to be peaking in the latter part of the season.  She’s finished inside the top-10 in four of her last five starts, and that includes her Meijer victory and a runner-up finish at the Evian.

Then there’s her Solheim Cup performance — she and Cristie Kerr put three points on the board for Team USA — and what Thompson may have learned from her playing time with Kerr could go a long way toward strengthening her mental game.  Thompson’s always been a fierce competitor, but when she was playing with Cristie Kerr Lexi Thompson was transformed into an animal!

Assuming Park adds no more than 10 points to her current score, Thompson would need to win five of the six remaining events and finish high in the Tour Championship.  Still not a likely scenario, even with Thompson peaking and prowling the links like a wild animal!
