Inbee Park held off a charge by Stacy Lewis last year at the Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship. There’s no doubt in my mind that Lewis will be on the hunt again this year at the Miramir Golf Country Club but I think there’s a strong possibility that we’ll see Yani Tseng in contention on home soil as well.

Currently ranked 66th in the world, Tseng has been working hard to regain the game that kept her at the top of the world rankings for 109 consecutive weeks in 2011-2-13.  We’ve seen glimpses of that game this year, at the Honda LPGA Thailand early in the season and then again a few weeks ago at the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic in Alabama.  If only briefly, the old Yani was back striking balls with ferocity, attacking pins like nobody else in the field, putting with a near-magic combination of abandon and precision.  Perhaps playing on home ground is what Tseng needs to bring out that game and keep it on the course for 72 holes of competition.

Like Sky 72, Miramar Golf Country Club is a Jack Nicklaus-designed course and takes full advantage of the unique landscape of Taiwan.  It’s a tight and exciting track nestled into the foothills of the Tatun Mountains so precision play will be at a premium.
