Phil Mickelson–At the time, I criticized captain Haas for choosing Mickelson as one of his captain’s picks, but I underestimated the 45-year-old. Mea culpa–but I was hardly the only one. Inside the ropes, though, he appeared spry and rested, and the calming energy of Zach Johnson kept him focused, even if it was a far cry from his usual playing partners (Keegan Bradley, anyone?). They went undefeated. On Sunday, Mickelson’s singles match against Charl Schwartzel was a rout; the American won 5 and 4. One of just two undefeated players on Team USA, Lefty proved that he still has tremendous value, not just as a clubhouse mentor, but a player too. Grade: A
