$8,900 to $8,000

I’m more interested in the lower part of this salary range than the top end. Hunter Mahan ($8,900) is still pretty meh. He had a fine T-32 finish at the Frys.com Open, but I still have my concerns.

Keegan Bradley ($8,800) should do extremely well at TPC Summerlin. He’s in the same vein as Webb Simpson. They strike the ball well, hit it far, but both are transitioning to the short putter and they can’t putt worth a lick.

The upside is there for Bradley, but the floor is very shaky. Bradley is definitely not a cash game play, but he is worth a shot in a tournament play.

Nick Watney ($8,500) has been playing better of late. In his last six tournaments he has made the cut in five of them. He had a nice tournament going last week, but a final round 77 kind of derailed that.

Nevertheless, Watney is playing decently and has played very well here at Shriners. Watney has made the cut in his last four appearances here and has two top tens including a 2nd place finish. Watney isn’t the safest play, but he has upside.

Now, let’s get to the golfers I’m targeting in this range. Charles Howell III ($8,300) is a golfer that typically starts the season off hot and then fades into the pack as the season progresses.

So, it wasn’t a surprise to see Howell III have a nice, quiet, quality finish last week at the Frys.com Open.

Howell III is someone you’ll want to roll out each week until February. After that, use him sparingly as he’ll be hit and miss throughout the year.

Last year, Howell III finished T-18 at Shriners, and T-5 the previous year. Again, this is golf, anything can happen, but Howell III – especially at his price – looks like a must play this week.

Will Wilcox ($8,200) has never played at TPC Summerlin, but I have the feeling he will have a performance similar to what Tony Finau did last year.

Wilcox is a core play for me and someone who fits what I’m looking for. Wilcox is a pure scorer and at a course like TPC Summerlin, Wilcox may very well go off. Plus, Wilcox is playing with a lot of confidence and has a lot of momentum.

Wilcox will be a popular play, but I don’t mind because this is a situation where I think Wilcox will perform at a high level and score a ton of points. There are five other slots where I can differentiate myself.
