European Tour: 10 Sleepers Who Could Win the Race to Dubai
By Matt Cochran
The Final Series for the Race to Dubai has officially arrived. After 44 tournaments throughout this past year, it now comes down to four events and it starts this weekend at the Turkish Airlines Open.
After this week, the Race to Dubai heads to the WGC-HSBC Champions, The BMW Masters, and the culmination of the Final Series with the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
It will come down to the top 60 golfers in the standings fighting for the Harry Vardon Trophy, a seven year exemption, and $5 million (USD) purse.
The pack of golfers is headlined by Rory McIlroy who holds the number one spot in the Race to Dubai standings by 271,214 points over the next closest golfer. The Ulsterman is going for back-to-back titles and the third of his career. He won in 2014 and 2013 and enters this Final Series as the favorite yet again.
Unfortunately for McIlroy, he’s had a busy travel schedule trying to balance the European Tour and PGA TOUR. He just got done with the FedEx Cup Playoffs and now he has another high stakes stretch of tournaments across the pond.
That being said, if McIlroy were to hit a cold streak during the Final Series then anyone could sneak in and win the Race. With the talent of the golfers chasing him, it’s not out of the realm of possibilities of happening.
Here’s a look at 10 sleepers who could win the Race to Dubai.
