Power rankings for the BMW Masters reflect a strong field for this final stop on the European Tour before the Tour Championship.
This week’s BMW Masters serves as the penultimate stop on the European Tour calendar, providing members with one last shot at qualifying for next week’s DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. One of the richest tournaments on the schedule, it will play host to another strong field, the third we’ve seen in as many weeks.
The course, Lake Maralen Golf Club in Shanghai, has hosted the event since its inception in 2011. That year, it was an unofficial 30-player invitational with an inordinately large prize for the winner: $2 million. In 2012, the event was added to the European Tour schedule as a part of the Race to Dubai Final Series. Since then, we’ve seen some solid shootouts and three quality champions: Peter Hanson in 2012, Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano in 2013 and Marcel Siem last year.
Not one of those players appears in this week’s power rankings–as of right now, none of them are qualified for the event (although Siem could get in as an alternate). Golf’s funny like that.
Let’s get to this week’s rankings. Each players’ current Race to Dubai ranking is listed next to his name.
