$9,900 to $9,000
Graeme McDowell ($9,800) had a very poor 2015 overall. On the bright side, he has been playing better of late.
McDowell made the cut in his final four events on the European Tour finishing T-19, T-30, T-24, and T-37. Those aren’t amazing finishes, but he was playing well.
This is the kind of course that suits his game and this is a very weak field. You’ll have to pay up a bit, but compared to the golfers around him I trust G-Mac more.
Charles Howell III ($9,700) was a bust last year. CHIII was the can’t miss golfer and the core play you had to build around.
Howell had been a horse for the course finishing 6-16-13-20 in his last four attempts here, but he still missed the cut.
However, his form was pretty poor. He is in much better shape this year. Howell is three for three in cuts made this year and has posted a T-17 finish at the Frys.com Open and is coming off a T-10 finish at the CIMB Classic.
Chris Stroud ($9,300) seems like a trap pick. We see it every week where someone is the horse for the course and absolutely craps the bed.
I’m just not entirely comfortable in paying up for Stroud. If he was $7,300 or even $8,300 I wouldn’t mind at all, but at $9,300 that’s too much for me. Stroud won’t be a core play for me.
Just to quickly wrap up this range, Brendan Steele ($9,900) is a good play. He is playing well and has a solid history finishing 37-16 in the last two years.
Will Wilcox ($9,400) and Keegan Bradley ($9,100) are risks. Wilcox is battling an injury and Bradley’s putting is still scary.
