LPGA: Top-10 Race to the CME Globe Contenders
Amy Yang could step out of Inbee Park’s shadow with a double lift in Naples.
Amy Yang presents some interesting possibilities in this equation. She’s a very good golfer who doesn’t get the public acknowledgement for her game that she deserves. Among the Korean players Yang has perhaps been overshadowed by Inbee Park’s dominance of the game, but she seems to be blooming this season.
While her win came early in the season, in February at the Honda LPGA Thailand, three of Yang’s top-10 finishes have come in her last five starts. She withdrew from the ShopRite and the Meijer but she’s missed no cuts.
Yang’s tee-to-green game is more or less equivalent to Feng’s and Nordqvist’s but her work on the putting surface is better.
Even without the points she might have accumulated in Mexico City, Yang’s probably going into the Tour Championship with better than 1,000 Race points after the reset. She’ll be in a good position to take advantage of any opening that emerges, and this is golf we’re talking about, where the right combination of skill and luck can produce surprising results.
Yang could use some luck in Naples and if she gets just a bit of it look for her to take full advantage.
