41. Donna Caponi (Byrnes)
Caponi-Byrnes, known in playing days as Donna Caponi, played during the emergence of the LPGA as a worldwide tour for women.
Caponi is one of few player to make a U.S. Women’s Open her first victory.
She was the second woman to win back-to-back US. Women’s Opens after Mickey Wright. She also broke Wright’s record of 287 in her second victory.
Caponi’s other two majors were LPGA Championships. Caponi has 29 worldwide victories, of which 24 were on the LPGA Tour. However, she also won the du Maurier and the Dinah Shore before they were recognized as majors.
After her playing days, she worked for ESPN and Golf Channel as a reporter and commentator. In 2009 she was given the PGA First Lady of Golf Award.
