Who Are The 50 Best Golfers in History?
36. Bobby Locke
Locke was from Johannesburg, South Africa, and perhaps was the leading edge of the great South African professionals.
When he came to the U.S. to play golf after WWII, there was controversy, some say, due to his great ability to putt. He played exhibitions with Sam Snead and won 12 of 16. In 1947, after the month of April, Locke won winning six U.S. tournaments, including four in a five-week period.
He won the Chicago Victory Open in 1948 by 16 strokes Locke and the next season he was banned by the U.S tour. In 1951 he ban was lifted, but Locke did not return to the states.
During his career, he won 74 worldwide events. In 59 U.S. events, he won 11 times and was second 10 times.
