35. James Braid
James Braid won five British Opens between 1901 and 1910. He won 17 tournaments in Europe and was part of the “Great Triumvirate” along with J.H. Taylor and Harry Vardon.
Braid played in the British Open from 1894 to 1928.
Braid also won the French Open in 1910 and four British PGA Championships in 1903, 1905, 1907 and 1911. He was the first to complete five victories in that event. He had putting problems earlier in his career but was said to overcome them by switching to an aluminum putter in 1900.
In later years, Braid was a club professional and a course designer. He was a pro at Walton Heath and subsequently created more than 200 courses, mainly in Scotland, Ireland, England and Wales. He was a founding member of the British PGA.
