28. Peter Thomson

Thomson is one of few who have won five British Opens. Thomson was awarded with the Order of Australia and the Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for his achievements in golf.

He won the British Open in 1954, 1955, 1956, 1958, and 1965. He is the only golfer who has won three British Opens in a row in the 20th century. He played a limited schedule in the US, winning six times on the PGA Tour. In those days the money on the U.S. Tour was insufficient for most foreign players to travel the U.S. and play.

However, Thomson returned to the U.S. as a Champions Tour player and won 11 tournaments. His worldwide victory total is 88, with 34 being in Australia. Thomson has also designed more than 100 golf courses.
