Who Are The 50 Best Golfers in History?
27. Seve Ballesteros
Ballesteros was one of few one name athletes. He was simply Seve. But that was a lot of golfer. Ballesteros has the record for total victories on the European Tour with 50, and his charisma made the European Tour more successful during the time he played.
He was known for a brilliant short game and for his remarkable recovery shots. Ballesteros won five majors between 1979 and 1988 the 1979 British Open, the 1980 Masters, the 1983 Masters, the 1984 British Open and the 1988 British Open. Ballesteros won the Order of Merit six times.
It is said that the Ryder Cup was opened up to European players primarily because of Ballesteros. He won 22½ points in 37 matches. His partnership with Jose Maria Olazabal won more points than any other partnership in the history of the competition.
