Who Are The 50 Best Golfers in History?
21. Kathy Whitworth
Whitworth has won more tournaments than everyone but Gary Player, Mickey Wright, Annika Sorenstam, Roberto De Vicenzo, Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus. Her 98 worldwide victories came a time when women played golf mainly in the U.S. She won 88 of those tournaments on the LPGA, which is more than any other golfer has won – man or woman—in the U.S.
Whitworth was LPGA Player of the Year seven times in 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1972 and 1973. She won the Vare Trophy for low scoring average seven times in 1965, 1966, 1967, 1969, 1970, 1971 and 1972.
Whitworth’s majors include three LPGA titles in 1967, 1971 and 1975; two Titleholders in 1965 and 1966; and one Women’s Western Open in 1967. Whitworth was the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year in 1965 and 1967.
