45. Susie Berning

Known also as Susie Maxwell, Berning won four majors in her career including three U.S. Women’s Opens and the Women’s Western Open, considered a major at that time. She played against Donna Caponi, Sandra Haynie and Mickey Wright. She has 13 worldwide victories, 11 on the LPGA. Berning is one of six women to have won three U.S. Women’s Opens.

Berning was Rookie of the Year in 1964 and won her first tournament in 1965. She and her daughter Robin were the first mother and daughter to compete in the same tournament. Oklahoma City University has a golf tournament named for her every year because she played on their men’s golf team in the pre-Title IX days.
