Golf All-Star Tournament
A skills based competition one day and the next day have the best in the world play a round of golf using old school technology
All team sports have an all-star game that celebrates the best of the best in their sport.
Some of the leagues like the MLB, NHL, and NBA have a day that dedicates specific skill sets their players have. MLB has the Home Run Derby, the NBA has the slam dunk contest, etc.
Golf doesn’t have anything like that and I would like to see something like that implemented. It’s tough to do considering golf takes very few breaks and is a full-year commitment, but what I want to propose is maybe do something fun in Hawaii before the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
A week before the PGA Tour season resumes have the golfers get together and do some skill games akin to what you see on Golf Channel’s Big Break. Have some of the professional golfers break some glass, have a long drive competition, hit targets from 150 yards away, etc.
That could be the skills portion and then the following day have a friendly competition that could only last a day or two where the golfers use some throwback equipment.
I think it would be cool to see the likes of Rory McIlroy and Jason Day compete using old school clubs and balls from the past.
It would be an interesting and fun exhibition to see players today using say graphite shafts from the 70’s, or balls that aren’t as tightly wound up as they are today.
Things like that I think would be cool for the fans and even for the golfers as well. It would be something new and be a nice change of pace.
