Martin Kaymer’s controlled game could finally get him back to the top of the board this week in Sun City.

It’s been a while since Martin Kaymer hoisted a trophy — about 18 months and any number of disappointing starts since his stunning victory at the 2014 US Open. Still, Kaymer has that game in his bag. He’s just struggled to get it out and put it to work.

His runner-up finish at the Open d’Italia got him tantalizingly close to a win and his T10th finish in Dubai was more than respectable, but those two finishes bracketed some less-than-memorable performances at the Alfred Dunhill Links, the Portugal Masters and the WC-HSBC Champions.

Even struggling with his flat stick, even chasing tee shots that can’t seem to find the short grass, I think Kaymer’s brand of golf will hold him in good stead.  He’s a precision player with shot control where it will count on the Sun City track. Look for him to be in the mix on Sunday.
