If he maintains the pace he set at the BMW Masters, Matt Fitzpatrick is well on his way to stardom.

Matt Fitzpatrick is sitting at no. 48 in the OWGR, well below others on my fantasy picks list.  Yet so far as I’m concerned Fitzpatrick is right where he belongs.

  • The EuroTour sophomore notched his maiden pro victory in October at the British Masters and he’s been playing like a man on fire since then: a T3 finish in Hong Kong and then a T7 at the WGC-HSBC Champions, which he followed up with a T13 at the BMW Masters and then capped off his binge with a T4 finish at Dubai.

My goodness! When I look at his stats I don’t see much to laud — he’s not particularly long off the tee and he’s no more than average in accuracy.  He short game is generating respectable stats but, again, nothing stands out that would explain this streak of high finishes.  I can only conclude that for young Mr. Fitzpatrick the magic of his game lies between his ears and he’s decided it’s time to claim a place at the table.

I’m looking for Matt Fitzpatrick to make a charge for the top of the board this week.
